How to Help Your Baby Sleep Better During Cold and Flu Season

Cold and flu season can be rough on little ones (and their parents!). Between stuffy noses, coughs, and general discomfort, sleep often takes a backseat when your baby isn’t feeling their best. But don’t worry—there are gentle ways to help your baby get the rest they need to feel better and recover faster.

Why Sleep is So Important During Illness

Sleep is a superpower when it comes to recovery. During deep sleep, your baby’s body works to repair and strengthen their immune system, helping them fight off germs more effectively. While it’s normal for sleep to look a little different when your baby is sick, a few adjustments can make a big difference.

Tips to Help Your Baby Sleep Better

Run a Humidifier
Adding moisture to the air with a cool-mist humidifier can relieve stuffy noses and dry coughs, making it easier for your baby to breathe and rest comfortably.

Stick to Your Routine
It’s tempting to stray from your usual bedtime routine during illness, but keeping it consistent provides comfort and reassurance for your baby. Familiarity helps them feel secure, even when they’re not feeling 100%.

Offer Extra Comfort
While maintaining safe sleep practices, offer extra cuddles or soothing to help your baby relax before bedtime. This reassurance can help them settle despite feeling under the weather.

Monitor Temperature
Keep your baby’s room at a comfortable temperature (68–72°F) and dress them in breathable layers. Overheating can disrupt sleep, so skip heavy blankets or layers.
